Styx is a deep, dark aubergine-purple semisolid colourway.
In Greek mythology, the Styx, also called the River Styx, is a goddess and one of the rivers of the Greek Underworld. Like her father Oceanus, and his sons the river gods, she was also a literal river; According to Hesiod, Styx was given one-tenth of her father's water, which flowed far underground, and came up to the surface to pour out from a high rock.
Although in the Iliad it is the river Styx that forms a boundary of Hades, more usually it is the river (or lake) Acheron, which separates the world of the living from the world of the dead. Famously, here the ferryman Charon carries the souls of those who have been given funeral rites to the afterlife.
