Nattravn is a variegated colourway with streaks of blue, purple, green and heavy streaks of black.
Night ravens are creatures of European folklore, predominantly described as raven-like creatures appearing in the night. The folklore differs regionally, and night ravens may be other beings, such as undead, shapeshifted into ravens.
In Nordic folklore, night ravens (Danish: nattravn, Norwegian: nattravn, Swedish: nattramn), are mostly known from the southern regions of Sweden and Norway, as well as Denmark. Some legends depict them with no eyes, which, if looked into, cause death. Such are also depicted with holes in their wings, which cause illness and disease if looked at.
In Swedish folklore (nattramn, nattkorp), especially of southern Sweden, night ravens are said to be the ghosts of suicide victims or pediciders, dead unbaptized children, or those buried in unholy earth, believed to appear at night in feathered hamr (bird form), and then primarily as ravens, instilling fear around it. They make a creaking sound, like the squeak of old wagon wheels, and never fly closer to the ground than the yoke of oxen.
Whether related to the myth or not, the name night raven has, at least historically, not solely been used in the sense of the monster. According to the Deutsches Wörterbuch and the Swedish Academy's dictionary, the term night raven is also an older Germanic name for nocturnal birds, especially nightjars and owls; still being the Danish (natravn), Norwegian (nattravn) and Icelandic (nátthrafn) term for nightjars.

Essential Information for buying our Hand-Dyed Yarns
When purchasing hand-dyed yarn, we recommend buying enough for your entire project.
Our yarn is handmade in small batches. While we follow precise recipes for repeatable colorways and carefully measure our materials, slight variations between skeins are inevitable. No two skeins will ever be identical, as is the nature of handcrafted products.
We take new photos for each dye lot, so images on our website may differ from skeins you’ve purchased in previous batches.
For a more uniform appearance in knitting, crochet, or weaving, alternate skeins every few rows.
We ensure all dyes are fully exhausted before rinsing our yarn. However, mild color bleeding can still occur, especially with bright, dark, or speckled skeins. To prevent unexpected color transfer, rinse your skein in cold water with wool wash and let it dry before starting your project.
For detailed care instructions, please follow this link.
This listing is for one (1) skein of yarn unless stated otherwise. Photos of multiple skeins are for comparison purposes, showcasing differences between yarn bases and/or skeins.
Please note that colorways may appear slightly different due to display settings on your device. Especially keep this in mind if you are using apple devices, which are known to alter colours. While we optimize our photography for color accuracy, viewing images on a monitor provides the most reliable representation.
