The Enchanted Forest Set features Cailleach Sport as a guest base at Nocturne 🦇
The set contains five 100g skeins in rich semi-solid colours, which can be easily faded into a gorgeous gradient. Despite it being a non-superwash base, it takes dye beautifully and allows for an even coverage. I chose to dye matching semi-solid colourways in various, but coherent, shades of green, inspired by forests found in Tolkien's Middle Earth:
- Nimbrethil: A light, mint green. Named after the birch forest of Nimbrethil, in the southernmost region of Beleriand. It is mentioned in the poem "Song of Eärendil", which Frodo hears in Rivendell.
- Lothlórien: The Fern green colourway represents the enchanted realm of the Elves, who remain in Middle-earth in the Third Age. Its forests include a stand of tall Mallorn trees, in which the Elves live on high platforms in their tree city of Caras Galadhon.
- Drúadan: A rich, Myrtle green colourway. The Drúadan Forest is the home of the Drúedain, a fictional race of Men. They are based on the mythological woodwoses, the wild men of the woods of Britain and Europe. In The Lord of the Rings, they assist the Riders of Rohan to avoid ambush.
- Myrkwood: A rich, dark Pine green colourway. The trees in Myrkwood were large and densely packed. In the north they were mainly oaks, although beeches predominated in the areas favoured by Elves. Higher elevations in southern Mirkwood were "clad in a forest of dark fir". Pockets of the forest were dominated by dangerous giant spiders.
- Fangorn: A deep Phthalo green, the ancient forest of Fangorn, at the southern end of the Misty Mountains, shares its name with the leader of the Ents; ancient treelike giants who live there, herding the trees. Some of the trees, Huorns, are awakening, seemingly becoming sentient, and becoming more like Ents, or are Ents who are falling asleep and becoming more "treelike".
Cailleach is a non-superwash, 100% Corriedale yarn base. At 100g and a running length of 333m, it has a lovely, bouncy 3ply structure. It's incredibly soft with a natural sheen, but retains a lovely rustic handle for all lovers of "woolly" yarn.
In Gaelic (Irish, Scottish, and Manx) myth, the Cailleach is a divine hag, associated with the creation of the landscape and with the weather, especially storms and winter. The word literally means 'old woman, hag', and is found with this meaning in modern Irish and Scottish Gaelic.

Essential Information for buying our Hand-Dyed Yarns
When purchasing hand-dyed yarn, we recommend buying enough for your entire project.
Our yarn is handmade in small batches. While we follow precise recipes for repeatable colorways and carefully measure our materials, slight variations between skeins are inevitable. No two skeins will ever be identical, as is the nature of handcrafted products.
We take new photos for each dye lot, so images on our website may differ from skeins you’ve purchased in previous batches.
For a more uniform appearance in knitting, crochet, or weaving, alternate skeins every few rows.
We ensure all dyes are fully exhausted before rinsing our yarn. However, mild color bleeding can still occur, especially with bright, dark, or speckled skeins. To prevent unexpected color transfer, rinse your skein in cold water with wool wash and let it dry before starting your project.
For detailed care instructions, please follow this link.
This listing is for one (1) skein of yarn unless stated otherwise. Photos of multiple skeins are for comparison purposes, showcasing differences between yarn bases and/or skeins.
Please note that colorways may appear slightly different due to display settings on your device. Especially keep this in mind if you are using apple devices, which are known to alter colours. While we optimize our photography for color accuracy, viewing images on a monitor provides the most reliable representation.
